It is located in North Malé Atoll, and is an inhabited island. The people of the island are engaged mainly in fishing and tourism activities. Tourism is becoming the major economic activity since the advent of local guest houses in the island.

    There is a mangrove swamp located to the north of the island, declared protected nature reserve. Its environment with its unique vegetation provide safe resting place for species of protected birds. In a study conducted by IUCN ten different varieties of trees identified, some true mangrove and others mangrove associate plants.

    Maldives Airport is actually on Hulhumale island – transport to Male – every 15 Minutes – 1 USD – Tickets to buy at the airport (from Hulhumale Jetty we recomend to take taxi to Vilingili terminal of Male island, where is the ferry leaving from)
